Early Word on Early Enrollees

Allow me to quote myself for a second here:

Snyder also reports that Rodriguez expects 8 early-enrolling recruits from the class of ‘09. Those would be Tate Forcier, Shavodrick Beaver, Vincent Smith, William Campbell if he re-commits, Anthony LaLota, Brandin Hawthorne, Mike Jones, and Vlad Emilien.

OK, not that I’ve been compulsively checking the student directory to see if these guys have enrolled (I have), but the first early returns are in. Umich e-mail addresses have been created thus far for Robert Forcier (Tate), Vincent Smith, Brandin Hawthorne, Vlad Emilien, and… William Campbell? Of course, “William Campbell is not exactly the least common name in the world, but the address was created yesterday, along with all the other ones so far. Even the Michigan Daily found its creation notable.

Of the other three early-enrollment candidates, Shavodrick Beaver will obviously no longer be enrolling at Michigan ever, much less early, and there have not yet been e-mail addresses created for LaLota or Jones.

Early Christmas presents so far? It sounds like it.

In the comments at MGoBlog, they are saying Mike Jones and Tony LaLota are both in as well. It is in the post about Will Cambell EE. At this point the future de-commitment of DeQuinta jones is of much less importance.

My theory? We offered DeQuinta to try to get Reuben Randle and it didn’t work out so the coaches are giving DQ the Jordan Barnes treatment… while I don’t agree with the tactic and I am not de-valuing DQ’s value (I think he will be good) I think this is what is going down.

I dont really understand the correlation there Big Will. If he is enrolled where is he going to go? I would consider that “chicken hatched”…

It is entirely possible that he could enroll in more than one school at once.
I had a friend in high school who got into both UofM and Cal, and couldn’t decide between the two. He enrolled in both, went to both summer orientations, and the last I saw him, one week before classes started, he was still trying to make up his mind.

What ‘Big Will’ is probably saying is…it’s possible [however unlikely] that WC may have enrolled “just in case,” and could be planning to enroll somewhere else depending upon each school’s early enrollment deadline.

I for one sincerely hope that WC comes to Michigan, he’s a difference maker. However, I would like to let the man have his moment and make his ‘big announcement.’ This is his time and it will never happen again for him and his family.

Therefore, FWIW in respect to him, because he said ‘he’ would like to announce his choice publically, I would only publish those students that have already announced their commits.

Yeah, What voice said. I actually posted the chickens thing, and I just feel like its bad karma for this kind of stuff to get posted, and I dont even belive in “karma”. But after the year we have had with the gajillion decommits, Its just bad joo-joo, or whatever. Plus, who knows what power the internets hold, and this thing getting blown up could piss our large friend off and send him somewhere warm. And we dont want that, now do we?? Not hard to de-enroll…

Not that I am knocking what you VB guys do.. you have an awesome and informative site and Im sure we all appreciate the work that goes into it.. but lets not steal the big guy’s thunder eh? This Beaver thing just spooked the hell out of me…dont know about you..

If Campbell enrolled at Michigan and then decided to go elsewhere, he’d need to transfer, and sit out a year. So, I sincerely doubt he enrolled “just in case”.

That said, there are doubtless many “William Campbell’s” on this earth.

  8. Santoro says...

Honest question: Does one need to sign a LOI to enroll?

  9. Andrew says...

    @Santoro,

No. Actually, they’re not even allowed to sign LOI’s until signing day, which is in February. At that point, early enrollees will already have been on campus for about a month.
